I’ve been thinking…
I wonder why it is that a lot of people don’t think about art and graphic design as something that is an actual career. I can’t tell you how many people react with “ooo’s and aah’s” when I tell them I’m a graphic designer, illustrator and writer. It may sound glamorous, but unless you’re one of those big hot-shots in New York or something like that, I’d say it couldn’t be farther from the truth. And forget about trying to convince someone that your “product” (art) is worth paying “all that money” for. There are clients that you get where, when they hear numbers, their heart skips a beat. But when they see the finished product, they’re happy with what they’ve got and are willing to pay the price. That’s the kind of client I wish every client was. Because it’s the ones that aren’t familiar with the industry that tend to be the hardest to deal with. But hey, at least it’s good customer service experience, right? There’s nothing like dealing with graphic design clients and it can be some of the hardest and most stressful things to be a part of. I guess I’m a better person for and because of it.
